A hot stones sports/remedial massage is a deep tissue treatment using warm basalt stones to relax your muscles. The heat from the stones can help alleviate muscle tension, relieve stress, relax the body and mind.

Hot stones used within sports massage context is still relaxing and stress relieving. The heat from the stones produce endorphins, which open blood vessels leading to increased blood circulation, increased lymph flow allowing toxins and waste products to flush out, whilst enducing DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) cause by sport or exercise.

What are the benefits?

Aids Sleep

Hot stone massage has been shown to improve sleep quality in individuals who receive the treatment.

Increases removal of toxins and decreases DOMS

By increasing blood flow, oxygen delivery, and lymphatic circulation, hot stone massage can help remove metabolic waste and decrease delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). These effects may be enhanced when combined with cold therapy. Contrast therapy is often recommended as an effective method for pain management.

Promotes relaxation

Hot stone massage can reduce feelings of anxiety and stress. The heat of the stones positively affects the nervous system by activating the parasympathetic response and supporting the release of endorphins and serotonin.

Supports the immune system and complements cancer care

Research suggests hot stone therapy may help ease side effects associated with oncology treatments and palliative care, including pain, nausea, and fatigue. Some studies have also reported increased production of killer T-cells following regular sessions, indicating a stimulatory effect on immune function.

Reduces pain and muscle tension

Evidence shows beneficial effects on pain perception in both musculoskeletal conditions and fibromyalgia. Hot stone massage has also been used to reduce lower back pain and improve range of motion.
